Will SOUTH AUSTIN have a Spring 2021 Season? We have every intention of playing baseball this Spring.  The health and safety of our players, coaches, volunteers, and parents will always be our first priority.  We feel confident that the COVID-19 protocols the league will put in place are conducive to having a safe, productive, and fun season.

When will registration open? Registration will open on January 15th.  It is highly encouraged that you don’t wait to sign up once registration opens.  The sooner that we can gather anticipated numbers, the better we can plan.

What COVID-19 protocols will be in place? League leadership is working to finalize practice and game protocols and procedures.  While we can’t offer specifics at this time, the guidelines will be in accordance with local, state, and national recommendations for outdoor youth sports activities, as well as best practices that we have been gathering from other youth sports organizations who have facilitated programs this Fall.  Stay tuned for specific safety and sanitation procedures to follow…

But what about the fields?  Aren’t they owned by the City of Austin? SOUTH AUSTIN BASEBALL has been fortunate to have a long-standing relationship with the City of Austin, operating as a Youth Sports Organization (YSO) on land owned by the City of Austin Parks Department.  The City closed most City of Austin Parks facilities when the pandemic caseload rose last Spring, SOUTH AUSTIN among them.  Our facilities remain closed at this time.  We are in constant communication with the Parks Department and are diligently working toward getting a green light to reopen for the Spring Season.

If we register, and the season is cancelled due to COVID-19, we will get a refund?  If the season is cancelled prior to the start of team activities, a full refund of registration fees will be given to all participants.  If the season is cancelled once underway, a prorated refund may be given depending on the amount of team activity that has taken place up to that point.  If the season is cancelled after the halfway point of the season, no refunds will be given.

Will there be tryouts? We are still working out specifics for tryouts and team formation, but as with most everything else this year, they are sure to look different.   Careful attention will be paid to those divisions to ensure that well-balanced teams are formed.  We are hopeful to have tryouts for the upper divisions, but that decision will be made closer to the end of the registration.

Will there be an Academy the season like in years past?  Once logistically feasible to do so, we will work with the groups who put on our camps to get some scheduled.  We know the camps are well received and important for skill development – we will be excited to offer them when we can.

How can I support the league at this time? By being flexible.  While we wish we had all of the answers, we don’t.  As stated above, we are working hard to play baseball this Spring and realize that now, more than ever, our kids need the opportunity to get outside, play sports, and be on a team with their peers.  South Austin is, and will always be, a special place in our community.  While this season will be administered in a way that will most certainly not replicate seasons past, we know it can still be the best Little League in Austin this Spring!

Anything else I need to know? We want to extend a special thanks to our league sponsors who continue to support our mission to provide the highest quality, community-oriented baseball program in Austin.  If you are a family who wants to support the league with a sponsorship, we are now offering Family Banners on all fields.  Contact kellysampley@me.com for more information.
